Boreal Omega is dedicated to the responsible valorization of marine products, using the abundant and perennial halieutic resources of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
At this stage of its development, Boreal Omega is focusing on the valorization of seal products, specifically harp seals and grey seals.
Both species are growing rapidly: the harp seal population has risen from 1.5 million in the 1970s to nearly 5 million in 2023. Over the same period, the grey seal population has grown from 10,000 to almost 500,000. The overpredation of this mammal negatively affects the marine ecosystem, fish stocks and the fishing industry.
